Tutorial Tuesday: Spiky Crystal Ring (inspired by Pamela Love)

November 22, 2011

Pamela Love jewelry
Pamela Love makes the coolest jewelry, but with the cool comes a hefty price tag. So I decided to make my own version of her spiky metal crystal jewelry, in the form of a big cocktail ring.

Materials:
Small crystals (mine are diamatina “laser wands,” from here and are each 3/4- to 1-inch long)
Ring base (I got mine at Michaels)
Silver nail polish (mine is Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in “Celeb City”)
Clear nail polish
Heavy-duty glue (I used E6000)
Wax paper
Double-sided tape (optional)

Methods:

1. Using a piece of double-sided tape, arrange your crystals on your ring base to get an idea of how many you’ll want to use and how to orient them. I used five crystals total, but decided to only paint four of them.

2. Place your crystals on a piece of wax paper and paint them with at least two layers of silver nail polish. Let dry, then paint with a layer of clear polish and let dry again.

3. Spread a layer of glue on your ring base and press your crystals into it. Let dry according to your glue’s instructions, at least overnight for E6000.

4. Optional: Paint your nails to match!

You could also do this without painting the crystals, for a plain crystal ring. Or you could probably use spray paint instead of nailpolish, although I didn’t try it.

Be careful when you’re shaking hands–you might poke somebody!

This ring would look awesome with those purple crystals you can buy…theyre basically the same except a nice dark purple colour.

Tiffany, I agree, except it might be hard to find them in a small enough size. If we’re thinking of the same ones, I think they’re amethyst, if that helps in tracking them down.
